Bulgaria commemorates its Independence Day – the 3rd of March. It marks 131 years since the Liberation of Bulgaria. Since 1888 the 3rd of March is celebrated as Liberation Day of Bulgaria from Ottoman yoke. It is celebrated once as an official holiday in 1978 on the occasion of 100 anniversary of the liberation. 10 years later it became an official holiday, but with the decision of the Grand National Assembly on March 5, 1990 when the date is declared as a national holiday.
