On the territory of the former barracks in Sofia in the so called area Karo, having size of more than 600 acres, the Bulgarian government wants to build administrative, office buildings, commercial areas, housing, sports facilities and park. Six world-famous architectural offices compete for the assignment. The successful designers who will create the vision of the new administrative center in the capital city are "Foster and Partners", Zaha Hadid Limited /a world famous architect of Iraqi origin/ "Dominique Pero Architect”, Obedinenie G-3 of the Bulgarian architect Georgi Stoilov, Fuksas Asochati S.R.L. and the consortium Adais project. Architects should offer design of future buildings, the best communications solution that provide access to a wide range and maximum number of vehicles, to prepare a scheme of engineering and drainage network and landscaping of the complex. Projects will be discussed publicly at the earliest in April 2009 Part of the ministries and state agencies, and their existing buildings will be moved to the government town and their present premises will be used for galleries, museums and even hotels. The idea declared firstly as another megalomaniac project of the government, was unlikely to take place, but now it is slowly developing. Ministry of Defense, the owner of the ground, has undertaken to release 204 decares between Blvd Tsarigradsko Shose and Blvd Assen Yordanov, to start the actual construction. The project, except its connectional part, is unlikely to take place within this government. It is not clear what are the criteria for selecting investors to build a complex, three times larger than Sofia Business Park. The idea is to provide right of investors to finance building construction of buildings for the various ministries on part of the ground and the other to give rights for construction of offices and commercial centers.
