Projects for New Protected Areas in the Northern Black Sea Coast
Ministry of Environment and Water announced it drafted orders declaring the following protected areas for conservation of wild birds based on Art. 12 from the Law on Biological Diversity:
- “Shabla lake complex”, with identification code BG0000156, located on the territory of the settlements of Ezerets, Krapets and Shabla in Shabla municipality, Dobrich region.
- “Kaliakra”, with identification code BG0002051, located on the territory of the villages of Tyulenovo, Bulgarevo, Kamen Briag, Sveti Nikola and the towns of Shabla and Kavarna in Dobrich district.
- “Durankulak lake”, with identification code BG0002050, located on the territory of the villages Durankulak, Staevtsi, Smin, Krapets and Vaklino in Shabla municipality, Dobrich district.
The full text of the draft Order is published on the website of the Ministry of Environment and Water - http://www.moew.government.bg and is available in the administrative building of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Varna (city of Varna, 4 “Yang Palah” Str.).
In one month period, until the 5th of March 2009, interested parties may submit their written opinions, objections and suggestions on the projects, prohibitions and restrictions of activities to the Minister of Environment and Water.
The following activities are prohibited in the protected areas:
- Removal of landscape features (boundary strips, single groups of trees) in the use of agricultural land as such;
- Afforestation of meadows, pastures and common pastures, and converting them into arable land and permanent crops;
- Use of pesticides and fertilizers in pastures and meadows;
- Changing the use of meadows, pastures, common pastures, wetlands, reservoirs, watercourses, sand dunes in the agricultural and forestry fund, except where the change is related to the construction of wastewater treatment plants for waste water, drinking water treatment plants for labor, equipment for waste treatment, roads, strengthening of landslides and other objects of the technical infrastructure plans or programs, projects and investment proposals for which up to the date of publication of the Order in the State Journal there is completed procedure under Chapter Six of the Law on Environmental Protection and art. 31 of the Law on Biological Diversity;
- Building stone-pits;
- Construction of photovoltaic systems and wind generators;
- Disposal of waste;
- Hunting in the period of January 1 - March 15;
